Who are we?

Temple Beth-El is the only Reform congregation in the Greater Daytona Beach area. Our Temple was founded in 1950 by fifteen local families who first met in a congregant's home, then in a hotel, and later in the News-Journal building. From those humble beginnings, Temple Beth-El has grown into the religious home for over 250 families. Our physical facility features the beautiful sanctuary, a smaller, more intimate chapel, a social hall that seats 150 for dinners or other social functions, a fully equipped kitchen, sixteen classrooms, a youth education center, and a gymnasium.

Rabbi Barry M. Altman has served our congregation for over 25 years. He and his wife Malka, have dedicated their lives to the betterment of others. Malka is the Director of Religious Education, as well as the Administrator of the Temple Beth-El Preschool, which as an enrollment of almost 300 children from age 1 through second grade.

Temple Beth-El is filled with the love of learning, the laughter of children, and a profound appreciation and pride in our Jewish Heritage. In the pages that follow, you will see some examples of what we offer to the Jewish community. Reading about us, however, is not enough. We encourage you to visit us, enjoy a service, and meet our Temple leaders. We hope that after doing so, you will want to join our congregational family.

What does Temple Beth-El offer?

In addition to our beautiful and inspirational religious services, Temple Beth-El offers a wide range of programming that is responsive to, and shaped by, the diverse character of our congregation. From the Rabbi's "Lunch Bunch" study group, to Jewish film series, to adult education, to Youth Group social events, to the Seniors Social Club, to the Nefesh Committee, to basketball in the Jeremy Y. Doliner Gymnasium, we offer programming for all segments of our congregation.
