Because we were overwhelmed by so many people coming for assistance for food at the Federation’s Jerry Doliner Food Bank, we were not going to do the School Backpack project this year, a project that we had been doing for over 15 years.
But we have had so many calls from teachers, parents and students asking for backpacks filled with supplies, we wondered how we could have the time to again do this backpack project. We asked our supplier if there was a way he could help us. He came up with a great solution. He has agreed to pack and deliver all school supplies to the counselors of the different schools. We have learned from experience during the 15 years that we have been doing these programs which the counselors know best who are in need.
We also realize that if parents are unable to afford the basics, they certainly will be unable to afford supplying their children with the necessary tools to achieve their best in school.
Therefore, we are again going to reach out to you our caring donors and ask you to give what you can afford during these trying economic times. This will enable us to help the less fortunate students in the neediest schools. One hundred percent of the funds donated will purchase school supplies. One quality backpack filled with supplies costs us $25.00 — these backpacks would cost a minimum of $80 retail.
Your name or business, if you desire, will be printed on a card in each child’s backpack, letting the children know that the community cares about them.
